Boston Learning Center is a nonprofit community-based organization founded in 1981 by a concerned Boston Public School teacher. For more than 22 years, we have been dedicated to helping students to excel in school. Modeled after the renowned Harvard Literacy Laboratory at Harvard’s Graduate School of Education, the Boston Learning Center has successfully served more than 3,000 students in Boston's public, private, parochial, and charter schools.
What We Care About
Since 1981, the Boston Learning Center has been committed to promoting academic excellence for urban students. We believe that our youth are an invaluable asset for social change and community empowerment, particularly within low-income urban neighborhoods. We understand that many under-performing students are dynamic individuals with untapped potential who are natural leaders among their peers. By enabling all students to realize their full potential in school and in life, we can empower them as agents of change who can transform schools and entire communities.
Our Vision
Our vision is that public schools will be places where every student actively focuses on self-development for lifelong success. No longer will public schools be breeding grounds for mediocrity. Instead, public schools will produce vibrant, energetic learners who carefully think, critically evaluate, and actively pursue new knowledge and skills. Students will no longer be “left behind” but will surge ahead towards academic excellence
