The Girls Connection Program is a collaboration between the Boston Learning Center and Madison Park Community Center in Roxbury. The program, which is designed for middle and high school students in grades 6 thru 12, includes both a summer component and an after-school component during the school year.
Program Goals:
The overall goal of the Girls Connection Program is to create a high quality, year-round program for teenage girls which offers comprehensive services and a variety of supports to enable participants to realize success in school and in life. Our specific goals are as follows:
- To improve student performance in reading, writing, and math
- To improve student scores on the MCAS so that performance is at the “Proficient” level or higher
- To increase student motivation to do well in school and be proactively engaged in learning
- To improve the social interactions among teen girls and foster healthy relationships among girls
- To promote healthy lifestyles through physical activities
- To expose students to the performing arts through theatre and dance
- To broaden student awareness through field trips, guest speakers, and enrichment activities
Through the school-year program, teen girls ages 13-18 participate in the following activities:
- Tutoring/homework help
- Dance
- Double dutch
- Spoken word poetry
- Step
- Entrepreneurship
- Field Trips
- and other activities
The 6-week Summer Session also includes all of the above activities, plus:
- Swimming
- EntrepreneurshipTraining
- Field Trips
- and much more!
The Girls Connection Program is designed to help teen girls build self-esteem and leadership skills while allowing them to develop positive relationships in a fun, safe environment.
